Rowe executive director of the Bay County Tourist Development Council said the Beach has seen a slight growth in tourism through April compared to last year but other vacations spots have experienced double-digit dips. The TDC’s marketing committee met Tuesday to digest this information and plan for a fall campaign which Rowe insisted was “not a fool’s errand” as long as the right message was put into the marketplace. “We just need to invite them down with a compelling reason” he said. The nature of the “compelling reason” was the issue that committee members were chewing over Tuesday such as whether the marketing mission should highlight special events or be more general in nature. The spirit of the overall campaign theme was also up for grabs. Committee member Russ Smith said major special events such as Thunder Beach or the Seafood Wine & Music Festival were impossible on a weekly basis.
